Must-haves for baby two: all the necessities and essentials

If your big kid wants to help out, a child-friendly step stool brings them up to counter level so they can join in food prep. Little Partners When I was pregnant with my first child, I prepared very little for her arrival. Having attended a few baby showers, I knew that people would always gift you certain things, whether you registered for them or not. Think baby clothes, touch-and-feel books, and that one toy giraffe, for example. With our first baby, we decided to just wait and see what we needed. There were a couple of frantic days running to the nearby Target in the very beginning, but by and large, this was fine. Then we got pregnant with our second. At the risk of underselling the madness of the transition from one to two kids, my strategy did not work out quite as well the second time around. I stand by my decision to wait on certain baby gear, but it was a mistake to largely ignore the future needs of my first child and partner. If you are bringing home a second baby soon (or did recently—congrats!) you will want to save as much time, money, and energy as you can while you navigate the newborn phase all over again but with added big kid shenanigans. This tower is great ...

FINDLAY, Ohio — A former semi-driver out of Findlay is pushing for change after claiming a major malfunction with a semi-door, left her badly injured.  Amy Larcom, who is constantly in and out of the hospital, now wants lawmakers to make the doors safer.  She said it’s something she would never want to happen to anyone else and that’s why she’s taking matters into her own hands.  “It’s a miracle I’m alive. I wanted to do something to change the hinges so it doesn’t happen to nobody else,” said Larcom with tears in her eyes.  Larcom had been driving semi-trucks for over a decade, until June of 2018, when she said a truck door landed on top of her.  Chris Hersch, who is a product manager at Honeywell, says he has had experience with metals for about 40 years now.  “Much cheaper to melt aluminum. It’s easy. The molds that are required are relatively easy compared to a steel casting. So they find their way into mudane applications that don’t require anything too exotic strengthen wise and for the most part they’re fine,” said Hersch.  “I want the hinges to be made like they were made 30 years ago. Agricultural Commodities In The Aftermath Of The February WASDE

On Tuesday, February 11, the US Department of Agriculture released its second World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report of 2020. We are coming into the time of the year where farmers will begin to plant the crops that feed and clothe the world over the coming weeks and months. Since the global population puts ever-increasing pressure on the demand side of the fundamental equation for gains, animal proteins, and cotton, supplies must keep up with the rising requirements of a growing world. The monthly WASDE report is the gold-standard when it comes to the supply and demand data that assists producers and consumers in making planting and hedging decisions. As we head into the 2020 planting season that begins in late March and April, volatility could start to increase as the uncertainty over the size of this year’s crop begins to rise. While economic factors can influence prices, it is always Mother Nature and the weather that have the primary influence on prices. The bottom line is that the next time the weather does not cooperate, and harvests are below bumper levels, the impact of demand could take prices appreciably higher. The Invesco DB Agriculture Fund (DBA...

Now anybody can do poultry thanks to Smart Poultry initiative

The zeal for smart farming and Agriculture, in particular, has seen Eugene Ohemeng and his team at Honex Farms, introduce the Honex Smart Poultry scheme which seeks to bridge the gap in supply since our demand outweighs supply When time changes our methods and processes must also change. We live in a smart world, technology leads every sector and farming shouldn’t be left out. For Eugene Ohemeng, farming, which is one of the oldest trades, must be more advanced in its processes current technology. “Basically, technology helps meet demand so without it there would be shortage, hence the need for imports so as the meet demand,” the CEO of Honex Farms noted. According to him, underdeveloped countries simply can’t meet demand for goods and services mainly due to our needless hold on to out-dated technology and working processes. Through Smart Technology in Farming, the country would be able to produce more Nutritious Foods with-in limited time. “I don’t want to bore readers with statistics hence my common logic submission. However most checks prove my point, if we can meet demand we wouldn’t need to import so as the sustain our economy. Efficiency through Smart Farming would end sh...

Low-haze structures for transparent flexible electrodes by electrospinning processes

For flexible electrodes, INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials is working with the process of electrospinning, a technique that produces ultra-fine fibers that are up to 100 times thinner than a human hair. These fibers are collected on glass or on foils in an unstructured, wide mesh net. When conductive materials are spun, flexible conductive transparent electrodes could be produced. These FTCEs have transparencies comparable to indium tin oxide with low haze less than two percent. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1449240174198-2′); }); The developers will be demonstrating their results and the possibilities they offer at stand B46 in hall 2 at this year’s Hannover Messe which takes place from April 24 to April 28. Flexible, transparent, and conductive electrodes (FTCE) are a key enabling technology for the new generation of flexible, printable and wearable electronics. The touchscreens and displays of the future will be curved and flexible and integrated into cars, phones, or medical technology. Tapping and wiping can only work on flexible devices, when flexible materials are used for touchscreens and electric circuits, ...

Barhale, as part of Anglian Water’s @one Alliance, has helped rehabilitate more than 10.4 kilometres of sewer pipe across East Anglia. The £4.5m project involved 22-weeks of live work to upgrade the sewer and the scheme has been delivered through the @one Alliance, the collaboration of consultants and contractors working together to deliver more than half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. One of the main challenges facing Barhale was the replacement of 360m of a damaged brick sewer, serving Whitlingham Water Recycling Centre. The 11m deep 1676mm diameter brick sewer had been attacked by Hydrogen Sulphide, causing bricks to become dislodged. A GRP pipe jack solution was chosen, eliminating any future risk of Hydrogen Sulphide attack and extending the sewer’s lifespan for another 150 years. Before work could begin, CCTV technology was used to provide a full 360º sonar and laser scan profile of the sewer. The survey found the sewer was up to 45% full of debris, with over 135m3 requiring removal. A steel shield was installed ahead of the GRP pipes providing a safe area for the workforce to remove the debris whilst simultaneously pipe jacking without being put at...

Tips for better interior lighting—no electrician needed

The right lighting can make a room feel cozy and welcoming. In the rooms where we work, proper illumination can make your life easier. Lighting can make or break the mood in a room. Don’t believe us? Imagine a restaurant dining room: It has soft, dim, flattering light with candles on the tables and mirrors bouncing the warm light around the room. Then picture the same room come closing time when the staff has turned on the fluorescent overheads to mop the floors—you’re in a different place. Curbed asked three decor pros for their tips and tricks to improve the look and feel of a home’s lighting without calling in an electrician. Unify your bulbs. Jenny Guggenheim, owner and principal designer at Guggenheim Architecture and Design Studio in Portland, suggests you change out all the mismatched types of bulb—especially old compact fluorescent ones—with one type of LED bulb. “In old homes there are sometimes three or four different types of lightbulbs (each with its own color temperature),” says Guggenheim. “This easy fix can go a long way towards elevating your lighting.” Pick the right LEDs. They are now the gold-standard of efficient lightbulbs, but shopping for LED bulbs can be ...

The Food We’ll Eat on the Journey to Mars (Algae Caviar, Anyone?)

Humans are headed for the cosmos, and we’re taking our appetites with us. What will fill the void when we leave Earth behind? To anyone who happened to be looking up that morning, perhaps from the deck of a boat off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the plane would have appeared to be on an extremely alarming trajectory. It rocketed into the cloudless late-summer sky at a 45-degree angle, slowed momentarily and leveled out, then nosed down toward the ocean, plunging 17,000 vertical feet in a matter of seconds. At the last moment, it leveled out again and began another climb, looking for all the world as though it were being piloted by a hopelessly indecisive hijacker. Onboard the plane, the mood was euphoric and a little hysterical. The main cabin had been converted into a kind of padded cell, lined with soft white tiles in lieu of seats and overhead bins. Two dozen passengers, clad in blue jumpsuits, lay on their backs on the floor. As the plane neared the crest of its first roller-coaster wave, a member of the flight crew got on the PA. “Pushing over, slow and easy,” he shouted over the roar of the engines. “Release!” Moments before he uttered that final word, the passe...
